I don’t know about you, but a spa day right about now sounds pretty fabulous.
But going to the spa for a relaxing day of self-care isn’t always an option, am I right?! (Like when we’re all stuck at home and the spas are actually closed).
The only thing to do is make your own spa day.
It’s super simple to create your own ahhhh-worthy spa experience right at home. Plus, these spa day ideas make amazing gifts for moms and can be used to create an “at-home spa day” kit.
Or use these ideas for a beautiful mother/daughter spa day event or a romantic couples’ retreat.
BUT WHAT DO YOU EVEN DO ON A SPA DAY?
A spa day can encompass lots of different things, but the ultimate theme is all about self-care and relaxation.
A spa day can include massage, luxurious facial treatments and masks, body scrubs and skin treatments, hair care, relaxation techniques, and aromatherapy.
Basically, anything that sounds relaxing and like a pampering experience for your body qualifies for your at home spa day!
Sounds amazing, right?!?

How to Create Your Own Spa Day At Home
10 ways to have the most ahhh-mazing spa day without leaving your house.
Steam is a wonderful way to open up the pores and give yourself a mini facial! It’s so easy to do at home too - all you need is water and your favorite herbs or essential oils.
I love lavender buds or rose petals with this, or try a few drops of this anti-aging essential oil blend.
This marigold beauty steam is beautifully packaged and would be a lovely addition to a spa day gift basket.
Bonus – steam also works to help clear sinuses! Consider this a 2-for-1 😉
To do your home steam facial treatment:
Heat water to almost boiling and pour into a bowl.
Add herbs or a few drops of essential oil to water.
Sit in a comfy chair with your face over the bowl of steamy water and a towel over your head to keep the steam in.
Close your eyes and inhale deeply.
Sit like as long as you would like or until the steam is gone.
Or try a portable facial steamer to get that “I’m really at the spa, not in my bathroom” feeling.
A face mask is an easy way to treat yourself at home. You can whip up a quick and customizable avocado face mask with just a couple of ingredients. It’s moisturizing, gentle, and so simple to customize for your skin type. Avocado for the win!
Get the avocado face mask recipe here.
Or try one of my favorite luxurious natural face masks that are spa quality and oh-so-amazing:
Josh Rosebrook Cacao Antioxidant Mask – this divine mask smells like dark chocolate and leaves skin glowing. It’s such a treat.
Honua Moana Mask – I love the earthy smell of this clay-based mask that uses skin-loving Hawaiian ingredients like blue-green algae and spirulina.
After a facial steam and mask your skin is primed and ready to soak up some amazing goodness from a facial serum or moisturizer.
This is usually one of the last steps in a spa facial and for good reason.
A great serum or moisturizer can make your skin look and feel amazing! You’re worth the splurge that these are – it’s time to treat yourself!
Honua Aloha Youth Serum – my very favorite facial serum from one of my favorite skincare lines. It smells ahh-mazing and applies so smoothly. This is a water-based serum, so it absorbs quickly and I notice the results immediately! This gives glowing skin like no other.
Laurel Skin Sun Serum – an oil-based serum that feels wonderful on skin. This herbal infused blend absorbs quickly and packs a powerful punch of anti-oxidant rich ingredients. It is also specially formulated to help repair sun-damaged skin and promotes skin regeneration.
It’s time to give your entire body some love! A body scrub is a great addition to a DIY spa day.
Try this quick and easy salt scrub recipe or for a slightly gentler exfoliation, go with a simple sugar scrub.
Both of these recipes can be customized so easily and you likely already have the ingredients in your pantry. They whip up in just a few minutes, and you can package them up to make a cute addition to your DIY spa gift!
Bonus – either of these body scrub recipes can be used on hands and feet as well! So pick your favorite recipe and use it neck to toes.
While you’re exfoliating and softening your body, might as well take an extra 2 minutes and soften up those lips as well.
A brown sugar and coconut oil lip scrub is so simple to make (2 ingredients!) and works wonders to gently exfoliate and soften lips.
Don’t let the simplicity of this lip scrub fool you. This easy DIY recipe feels like a luxurious treatment.
Follow up the lip scrub with the best homemade lip balm you’ve ever tried for the softest kisser in town.
Nothing says self-care more than a long, relaxing bath. I love to either start or end my at home spa day with an indulgent, aromatic bath.
I love an Epsom salt bath as part of my DIY spa day ritual because it detoxifies. Make sure to soak for at least 20 minutes in water as hot as is comfortable to get the full effects of the Epsom salt detox.
These homemade bath salts contain Epsom salt and are perfect for a detox aromatherapy bath.
Or try a fizzy, fun bath bomb like this green tea detoxifying bath bomb.
Take the relaxation effect up a notch by lighting one of these luxe calming candles that is scented with pure essential oils.
Have you ever noticed when you go to a spa it always smells amazing? That’s some good aromatherapy at play, and it will elevate your home spa day exponentially!
My favorite way to use aromatherapy at home is with essential oils and a good diffuser. A small bottle of essential oil will last a LONG time, and the diffuser emits just the right amount into the air over several hours.
Plus essential oils are made from plants, so they smell like the real deal (because they ARE the real deal) and they are healthier for your home than synthetic air fresheners or candles.
I love the spa-quality look of this bamboo diffuser from NYR Organic, and the modern, goes-with-everything appeal of this larger diffuser.
My favorite essential oils are from Plant Therapy. My top blends for creating a spa-like ambiance that will relax your socks off are
- Relax blend: what goes better with a spa day than a scent called Relax?!
- Calming the Child: kid-friendly and smells oh-so wonderful for adults too
- Loving Compassion – Heart Chakra oil blend: calming and fresh smelling, can help activate your 4th chakra, and who doesn’t want that when they’re practicing self-care with a home spa day??
My favorite part of a massage is always the feet. It’s just soooo relaxing! I love to have my feet pampered, so they get a big part in any home spay day at my house.
I love to start with a DIY foot soak to soften dry skin. I suggest pairing the foot soak with the facial steam listed above and feel like a queen while you pamper your face and feet simultaneously!
Ahhhh, so relaxing.
Next up for your footsies is an exfoliating treatment to get rid of any dead skin. Make sure to do the foot soak first if you have lots of calluses or dry skin to remove – it works wonders!
For really rough patches, try a pumice stone on heels.
Follow it up with an foot scrub for super soft and sandal ready feet.
We often forget our hands when we’re thinking of how to pamper ourselves at home, but they need lots of love!
Hands are constantly being used, washed, exposed to cleaners and all kinds of things! They need a break and a little TLC.
So for our at-home spa day, we’re giving our hands the ultimate treatment.
First up is an herbal nail soak. It’s so easy to pull together and makes hands soft and relaxed. Plus it helps to strengthen nails – double score!
Next is an exfoliating hand scrub. This is super similar to the body scrub you already did, so feel free to reuse that recipe if you’ve already made it.
Let the scrub sit on your hands for a few minutes before rinsing so they can soak up all of the nourishing goodness of the oils.
Lastly, apply the most amazing cuticle oil in the world. I know that is a bold statement but, I hear from countless people how this homemade cuticle oil improves their nails and cuticles almost instantly.
And I agree – this cuticle and nail oil is so good you will never need another recipe. So I stand by my claim.
If you still need a little extra hand nourishment after the world’s best cuticle oil, try the Bee Lovely hand cream. It’s just the right amount of moisturizing and very lightly scented with orange essential oil. So lovely!
Once your body is feeling pampered, exfoliated, moisturized, steamed, soaked and oh-so-relaxed, I suggest a little extra time for yourself.
I love, love, love doing a quick yoga and meditation practice at home to help unwind.
My favorite online yoga classes are from Yoga Download – I can always find exactly what I’m in the mood for!
Try a short 10-minute relaxing yoga session to finish your DIY spa day, or maybe even a power flow class before you start your pampering extravaganza!
Adding a yoga or meditation practice into your home spa day is a great way to give your internal self some love as well.
