My healthy hot chocolate is a decadent drink made with a cashew milk base and sweetened with maple syrup. PLUS it is loaded with antioxidant rich raw cacao powder, cinnamon and cacao butter.
I also like to add collagen peptides to give it a little protein boost, but if you are vegan/vegetarian or simply don’t have it on hand it is not necessary. This healthy hot chocolate is not overly sweet – I’d say its more like a semi-sweet chocolate bar instead of a milk chocolate 😉

The Secret to Extra Creamy Hot Chocolate
The secret to achieving the creamy and decadent consistency of this Paleo hot chocolate is blending it. Now you might be thinking you do not want to mess with an extra step just for hot chocolate, but hear me out!
Raw cacao butter gives this dairy-free hot chocolate a rich and creamy texture, but it needs to be thoroughly incorporated into your milk base or you will be left with oily hot chocolate.
I’ve tried a handheld drink frother, and it’s not strong enough to do the job well. The best way to blend this hot chocolate (or any drink with a fat added!) is with an immersion blender (one of my favorite kitchen tools!).
I make this on the stove top and once the cacao butter is mostly melted, I very carefully take a stick blender to it. Make sure to use short spurts so that it doesn’t splatter everywhere, and this hot chocolate will be creamy and frothy in no time.
