DIY body scrubs are so easy to make with completely natural and healthy ingredients, yet they are still so luxurious!
It could not be any easier to make a homemade exfoliating body scrub! It’s a simple combination of an exfoliant and oil – it’s all you need for glowing skin!
BODY SCRUB BENEFITS
Body Scrubs work hard to exfoliate and moisturize dry skin.
Oil in the homemade body scrub is more easily absorbed once skin is exfoliated, leaving your skin healthy, soft and radiant!
WHY SHOULD I EXFOLIATE?
Exfoliating your skin is so important! Your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells. Exfoliation removes those dead skin cells to make room for healthy, younger cells.
Exfoliation also softens your skin, can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and pores, detoxifies and improves the overall tone of skin.
WHAT CAN I USE TO EXFOLIATE SKIN?
There are several great choices to use for exfoliating dry skin, and they are all readily available, work beautifully and inexpensive.
SALT
Salt is a top choice for many body scrubs, and for good reason.
I love to use dead sea salt and pink Himalayan salt in body scrubs since they are loaded with natural minerals and exfoliating for the skin.
SUGAR
Sugar is another great choice to exfoliate, and works well in many body scrub recipes.
I prefer to use organic pure cane sugar in body scrubs, and I find sugar to be slightly less exfoliating and more gentle than salt.
You can also use coconut sugar or regular white sugar in your body scrub. Since coconut sugar has a larger grain, it will produce a more exfoliating scrub.
COFFEE
Coffee grounds make an amazing exfoliating scrub for skin all over your body.
Coffee has benefits in a body scrub beyond its exfoliating properties. It can help tighten skin and is even said to lessen cellulite. For these reasons, coffee is a common ingredient in facial products and is a great choice for a homemade face scrub.
I prefer to mix coffee with sugar in most of my coffee scrub recipes, but it can absolutely be used by itself for a wonderfully exfoliating scrub.
WHAT IS THE BEST OIL TO USE IN A BODY SCRUB?
My favorite carrier oil for homemade body scrub is grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil feels less greasy but is still extremely nourishing, which makes it my top pick for a DIY body scrub.
You should be able to pick up grapeseed oil at a natural grocery store (I got mine at Sprouts in the personal care section). Or it is, of course, available online right here.
I always like to include jojoba oil in my body product recipes since it is so nourishing and skin LOVES it, so you’ll also find jojoba in several of these body scrub recipes.
Other great oils for body scrubs are almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil.
I love to add Vitamin E to my body product recipes as well for a little extra nourishment. A little goes a long way, and you can add it to all kinds of things!
HOW LONG DO HOMEMADE BODY SCRUBS LAST?
If you’re wondering how long your DIY body scrub will last, I have good news for you. Since these body scrub recipes do not contain any water, they can last up to 6 months. These scrubs are so wonderful, I’d be surprised if any of them lasts that long though!
Make sure to keep it sealed in a jar with a lid to ensure it stays fresh and free of contaminants. If you keep it in your shower, store your homemade body scrub away from the water stream to avoid water getting into the jar.
