Homemade Sugar Scrubs are so easy to make, and they work extremely well. You’ll find lots of DIY sugar scrubs that use coconut or olive oils because they are easy to come by, but I prefer a different combination of oils for my sugar scrub recipes.

This version is made with raw, organic cane sugar, freshly ground coffee, a luxurious mixture of skin nourishing oils and an essential oil mix that smells just like pumpkin spice.

It’s SO GOOD ya’ll!

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub is a great DIY gift idea. What a cute hostess gift this scrub would be paired with a coffee shop giftcard!

(I have some packaging and label ideas for you at the end of the post)

Have you made a coffee body scrub before? I’ve done several versions, but this pumpkin spice scrub has less coffee than my usual coffee scrub recipe. I just wanted a hint of coffee so that the pumpkin spice essence would not be overpowered.

But the good news is, you’ll still get the benefits of coffee in your scrub with this recipe.

WHAT IS THE BEST OIL TO USE IN A SUGAR SCRUB?

My favorite carrier oil for homemade sugar scrub is grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil feels less greasy but is still extremely nourishing, which makes it my top pick for a DIY sugar scrub.

You should be able to pick up grapeseed oil at a natural grocery store (I got mine at Sprouts in the personal care section). Or it is available online right here.

This pumpkin spice sugar scrub recipe also includes almond oil. I love almond oil because it is nourishing, gentle and absorbs well.

I always like to include jojoba oil in my body product recipes since it is so nourishing and skin LOVES it, so you’ll also find jojoba in this pumpkin spice sugar scrub.

I love to add Vitamin E to my body product recipes as well for a little extra nourishment. A little goes a long way, and you can add it to all kinds of things!

BENEFITS OF COFFEE SCRUB

The naturally occurring caffeine in coffee can help tighten skin and possibly reduce cellulite. The effects of caffeine from coffee on skin are temporary, so you’ll need to use it regularly.

Coffee grounds and raw sugar exfoliate dry and dull skin, and a luxurious combination of oils provide moisture. Homemade pumpkin spice latte scrub gives skin a natural glow, and it smells like your favorite fall drink.

So let’s get to the recipe!

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub Recipe

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

A quick and easy DIY pumpkin spice sugar scrub recipe with coffee grounds and essential oils.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup ground coffee
  • ¼ cup grapeseed oil
  • 2 TBS almond oil
  • 1 TBS jojoba oil
  • 6 drops vitamin E (optional)
  • 9 drops vanilla essential oil
  • 5 drops cinnamon essential oil
  • 2 drops ginger essential oil
  • 2 drops lemon essential oil
  • OR
  • 18 drops Pumpkin Pie Essential oil blend (in place of the above 4 essential oils)

Instructions

    1. Combine sugar and coffee in a small mixing bowl and stir until combined
    2. Make a well in the center of the mixture for the oil
    3. Add the grapeseed, almond, jojoba oil and vitamin E
    4. Add the essential oil directly on top of the oil puddle (the essential oils mix in easier with this trick!)
    5. Stir everything until combined
    6. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months

Notes

  • Recipe makes approximately 2, 8 ounce jars of scrub.
  • The mixture looks slightly dry, not swimming in oil when it’s finished. Don’t be fooled, it’s not, it is super nourishing!
  • Be careful not to introduce ANY water into the container when you use the scrub. Water means bacteria growth, and your scrub will not last as long.
  • I recommend a small spoon for scooping the scrub out so that it doesn’t get contaminated with water

DIY SUGAR SCRUB GIFT IDEAS

Wide mouth, half pint mason jars work great for scrubs, and they are super giftable. I use them often for body scrub gifts.

I also love a swing top glass jar, like the one in my pictures. These are similar and would be prefect for gifts!

I love these reusable chalkboard labels for a plethora of DIY gifts. This pack comes with 4 different sizes and a variety of shapes (plus 2 chalk markers). They work for all kinds of homemade gifts!

Make sure to pick up some cute reusable spoons to include with your scrub. I like these. Simply tie them on with a ribbon and you’re done.

CAN I USE FRESH PUMPKIN IN MY SCRUB?

Yes, you can use fresh pumpkin in your body scrub to realy make this extra pumpkiney (is that a word? It should be).

HOWEVER, you will need to use your scrub with fresh pumpkin immediately and store any leftover in the fridge for up to a week. A body scrub will NOT keep well with fresh pumpkin in it.

That’s why I prefer the pumpkin spice essential oils in this recipe instead.

CAN I PUT USED COFFEE GROUNDS IN MY SCRUB?

You can use either fresh or used coffee grounds to make your pumpkin latte scrub. I usually use fresh, especially if I plan to save the scrub to use at a later time.

If you are using used coffee grounds for your DIY coffee scrub, you will want to make sure they are completely dry before using them to avoid any bacteria growing in your scrub. To dry your used coffee grounds, place them in a thin layer on a towel or baking sheet and let them air dry.

Want to reuse the grounds from your morning pot of coffee? If you plan to use the scrub immediately, there is no need to dry the coffee grounds.
