It’s easy to make a luxurious milk bath, perfect for a relaxing bath night or as a beautiful homemade gift. This recipe takes a standard coconut milk bath and elevates it with French Green Clay, dried rosemary, and oats. The combination creates a silky smooth bath that’s relaxing and great for the skin.
I love clay in lots of body care recipes (like lemongrass bath bombs) for its skin-enhancing properties. I find it especially great in any bath product because your skin gets to soak up the clay. You’ll step out of the bath feeling silky smooth.
Green clay is also great in a homemade face mask, and I love it as an addition to handmade soap.
Ingredients and Supplies: What You’ll Need
Powdered/dried Coconut Milk – Go with powdered coconut milk for a vegan version, or you may also use dried goats milk or powdered cow’s milk.
French green clay – French Green Clay is clarifying, nourishing for the skin, and leaves a silky soft finish in bath water. Natural clay is also an excellent detoxifying ingredient. You may substitute any variety of kaolin clay in this recipe with good results, but remember the muted green color of this recipe comes from the French green clay.
Oats – a longtime favorite for soothing baths, oats are an excellent addition for sensitive skin and an overall relaxing bath experience.
Dried rosemary – This will add a bit of a natural scent, and the rosemary will infuse into the bath water, making a lovely rosemary-infused bath.
Sweet almond oil – Almond oil adds a bit of extra moisturizing goodness to the bath. Other liquid oils will also work: avocado oil, olive oil, or sunflower oil are all excellent substitutions.
Rosemary essential oil – optional, or you may use your favorite scent if rosemary isn’t for you. A little goes a long way with this oil, so stick with just five drops!
Epsom salts – the bulk of our milk bath; Epsom salts promote relaxation and detoxification. They are lovely by themselves in a bath, and added to a milk bath recipe, they are even better.

Make it a Gift
A homemade milk bath is a great DIY gift idea, and it’s super simple to whip up a BIG batch to make for all of your friends. Grab some cute jars with scoops, pair them with another simple DIY body care recipe (like homemade cuticle oil, which also contains rosemary), and you’ve got a homemade gift that will leave your recipient saying, “you MADE that?!”
Can I use other types of clay?
You can use many types of clay in this recipe with great success. Any variety of kaolin clay will work for a homemade milk bath and can be easily substituted in this recipe with success. Rose clay is also great for skin and makes a lovely pink bath – it is one of my favorite clays for skin!
Can I use regular milk for a milk bath?
Yes, you can! Dried goat’s milk OR traditional powdered cow’s milk works beautifully for this recipe and add their lovely benefits to a milk bath.
Goats milk is great for skin: it is soothing and nourishing in a bath. Cows milk has been used for thousands of years as a bath enhancer because of its skin softening properties and the luxurious feel it adds to bathwater.
Powdered coconut milk is used in this recipe to make it vegan, but feel free to use your preferred type of powdered milk.
